Evening Snack

I've got a riddle for ya: What does a crazy college kid do on a Saturday night?
Her dishes and chem homework.

Haha- tonight is definately an R&R night. I had a snack of a big apple sprinkled with cinnamon, now I'm sipping some herbal cinnamon spice tea (it's a cinnamon-y night!).

Snack calories: ~100 (REALLY big apple)

I'm about ready to curl up with the fun new book I'm reading- It's called Julie & Julia, all about a woman who decides to take on the challenge of trying EVERY recipe in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
It's good so far, but I just started!

I can't wait until tomorrow morning; I'm making my swiss oats tonight to have for breakfast, then I'm going to Hot Yoga with Mom, and I work later tonight... Gotta watch the big game, too- I'm a New England girl, so GO PATS!

Have a great night!

Easy dinner

I had a quick, easy yummy dinner tonight- some vegetarian chili and a side of garlic seasoned steamed cauliflower. The birdseye frozen veggies were on sale at stop and shop, so I picked up a big bag, made it tonight; ate 2 servings of cauliflower and saved the other to have with a work dinner! Perfect!

Veggies:

(Vintage cigar box in the background!)

Chili and Cauliflower:

This was about 2 cups vegetarian chili (Health Valley Three Bean brand) and 2 cups cauliflower, ~400 kcal, 5 g fat
I'm full for now, but I'll definately be getting some more fruit in today with my snack later!

Exciting, low key Saturday

I don't know about you, but sometimes I get excited about a nice, low key Saturday!
Today has been one of those days!
I went for a nice light cardio session at the gym; 20 minutes on the elliptical and 20 on the bike plus 5 mins warmup for 45 minutes in total.
Nothing too intense, I had a late night last night so I am a bit tired.
Afterwards, I was working on my chem lab a bit and realized I was sooo hungry, there was no way I was making it to lunch! So I had 10 baby carrots with a laughing cow light garlic & herb cheese wedge. (85 kcal)

Did the trick, but only for an hour.
I was still hungry for my late lunch with Katrina!
I had my favorite "burger" at Crazy Burger; the Wild & Crazy Mushroom Burger! It's made with italian rice and mushrooms, and served with tomatoes, sprouts, pickles, and a mushroom sauce (which I used all of! It was only a couple tablespoons worth) on a multigrain bun. Yum! It was so big, but full of healthy foods, so I didn't feel too bad devouring it!

I ordered sweet potato fries on the side, but only ate about 7 of them... they weren't as good as they have been, and these looked fried, not baked like they usually do. I did dip in a bit of my favorite Crazy Burger Ketchup though! (Probably about a tablespoon) Mmm!

Not sure the calorie count of this lunch at all... but I'm having a balanced dinner so it shouldn't matter too much. It's all about balance!

After lunch I headed to the grocery store to stock up a bit for the week, some fresh fruit, yogurts, etc.
I picked up:
-bananas
-blueberries
-nectarines
-pears
-more baby carrots for dipping
-Fage 0%! The 5.5 oz sizes were 3/$5 so I had to get some! I got 2 0% and 1 peach 2% for a sweet snack some day soon
-Hood 1% cottage cheese
- a couple dannon light n fit yogurts
-nonfat soy milk
-lentil soup
and... on sale... a fun find- 100 calorie packs of KETTLE CORN! I love kettle corn, great when you want a salty/sweet fix, and whole grain! I'm excited to try these!

That was all for today... I'll get bread, more cottage cheese, soy burgers, cereal, and more veggies next week when I REALLY run out of food!

Now for some more studying! =)

New day...

So, like I mentioned, today's a new day!
Starting fresh, I had a balanced breakfast of 1 mini wheat bagel with 1 tbsp peanut butter and 1 tbsp raspberry jam, plus 1/2 cup greek yogurt (also topped with a bit of jam) and a medium red pear.

Total breakfast calories: ~420 kcal

Now I am oficially out of fruit, and I need to grab a few other things...I'll be doing a quick grocery shop this afternoon for sure!
I'm going to get my stuff set for the day, and head to the gym around 9 when it opens. I'm going to check out the cardio machines today, hopefully get a good workout in.
Then, for lunch I'm meeting up with my friend Katrina for Crazy Burger! Yay, my favorite!

Hmm... what crazy vegan concoction will I try today?? =)

I'll post lunch later, when I get home from lunch/groceries!

Late dinner post

Sorry about the super-late post, guys- I had a whole bunch going on yesterday afternoon!
The rain really didn't let up at all, as soon as I got back from lunch I got my things together, and got a ride (I'm so spoiled!) to Starbucks, where I sat and attempted about 7 organic chem problems before work.
I snacked on a large apple and a cheese stick while I was studying, and then ate dinner at work a couple hours later. (170 kcal)

I was rushing all night at work, so I didn't even THINK about photographing my dinner! Not too interesting anyways... Progresso lentil soup (2 cups) with a baggie of carrots sticks and a cup of mixed vegetables.

Dinner calories were about 380 kcal.

Ok, confession time.
I was bad, yet again last night. But wayyyy worse with the processed snacks, yuck.
I really don't eat this kind of thing often, because I really hate how it makes my body feel.
But I was having fun watching the movie, and I ate SO much candy, and junk...
I definately am not happy with myself, but today is a new day and I can make better choices.
Theres a reason I only let myself splurge every once in a while.
Twice in one week did NOT make me feel good, nor should it.
I can't wait to get back to my healthier ways!

I ate a couple of brownies, some "pirates booty" organic cheesy popcorn, a whole bunch of peanut butter m&ms and a few small handfuls of mixed mini candy bars. Yea, I said it was alot.

I'll post breakfast next!

SOAKED

Well, I spoke too soon! Just before I was getting ready to head out for my Kinesiology class, lightning struck, the sky opened and the rain came tumbling down like rivers from the clouds! Well, not really.
But it DID begin to downpour. And when I say DOWNPOUR, I mean DOWNPOUR!
I've never been so SOAKED in my life!
I don't like this rain thing =(
At least it's not snow!

Needless to say, being soggy and wet didn't stop my appetite... my big breakfast held me well for about 3 1/2 hours, and then I was ready for lunch!
I stopped at the dining hall, and wanted something hot on such a yucky day, but there weren't any soups for me (plus, I'm planning on soup for dinner!) So I went with the good ol' fusion stirfry! I grabbed two cups of mixed vegetables; some carrots, broccoli, bok choy, a few mini corn, peppers, onion, mushrooms... and had her "fry" them in water (instead of oil) with some tofu, and a bit of garlic/soy sauce. It was delicious!
I grabbed some sweet and sour sauce in case I needed flavor, but it was just tasty enough with the garlic/soy sauce that I was good without it!
I also had a small banana on the side for some extra fiber and substance, and I'll be ready for a snack before work in a few hours I'm sure!

Work 5-9 tonight... short night, should go by fast (hopefully). If it stops raining hopefully after work I can stop next door to Belmont's to grab some organic snack crackers for my movie night with friends tonight... might as well snack on the healthy stuff if I'm going to snack!

I'm attempting to load my cell phone pic of my lunch... we'll see how that goes.
This was a small lunch, about 320 kcals.

P.S. Can we BELIEVE it's already February? I know I can't!!

Dreary Morning

It's not too nice outside, unfortunately- pretty dark and dreary. They said it might rain, I'm hoping not... I have another far-away class!
This morning I woke up and had 1/2 a new clif bar- this time I tried "Oatmeal Raisin Walnut". It was good, but not as good as the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip!
I went to the gym, and went for another nice, long run. I'm really enjoying these long runs on m/w/f, so I decided I should probably take Saturdays off from running (I'll do some other form of light cardio) to let my body rest and recover. Admittedly, I can get a bit obsessive when it comes to running, so I'll give my body a bit of a break every once in a while.
I'm not sure my exercise schedule this weekend yet, hopefully I'll be able to get in a yoga class on Sunday morning, as long as I work in the evening (fingers crossed!). I wanted to do some strength today; but without knowing my schedule for sat/sunday I decided to just do some walking lunges (40, 20 on each side) to strengthen my legs and either finish my strength routine tomorrow or through yoga on Sunday.
Enough about exercise!

I was sooo hungry when I came back! I was considering just going with 1-1/4 cups of cereal today, but I was super hungry, and I know nothing less than 1-1/2 cups ever fills me up. So, I went with 1-1/2 cups kashi go lean honey almond flax with 1 cup low fat soy milk (a few more calories than my other variety, this time I used "West Soy Low Fat"- 90 kcal, 1.5 g fat/cup) and I had a medium sliced pear on the side.

Total breakfast calories, including clif bar: ~600 kcal
(Woah! Thats a big one, but I'm sure it will hold me until I grab lunch and I'm at work for dinner tonight anyways, so I know it will be light!)
