Twists and Turns (lunch, dinner and disaster 3/15)

Beware the ides of March.

I am sooo sorry for the extremely late post, I know I'm apologizing for the second time in a couple days, but believe me- this time the excuse is dammmnn good. Yesterday wasn't half bad. It was a great day, actually. But yesterday night constitutes one of, if not THE worst nights of my life, hands down.
I'm still so angry I can hardly even write this to explain. Basically, the day went well overall- we got to the restaurant I had picked out in record time (thanks Google Maps!), the Life Alive organic cafe, and I had an absolutely FANTASTIC lunch!! It was soo good, I wanted to jump on blogger right then and post how great it was!! I had their signature dish, The Goddess. It was a heaping bowl of short grain brown rice topped with an array of crunchy fresh veggies- kale, carrots, broccolli, beets, as well as tofu and their delicious ginger nama shoyu dressing. I had it topped with tamari almonds! Yum, and more healthy fats! A different delectable flavor in every bite... mmm my mouth is watering just thinking of the meal. It was pretty big, and very filling- I almost finished it, and was definately stuffed- but it was all healthy! So no guilt there =) For a drink I sipped on their fabulous herbal chai tea with a splash of soymilk. I NEED to go back there again, it was sooo delicious! I highly reccomend it if you're ever in Lowell, MA!

After lunch we took the quick 1/2 mile walk to the Tsongas Arena to see the 2:00 Dropkick Murphy's St. Patrick's Day show! It was incredible. What a performance. They had a choir, a string band, irish step dancers, and of course their signature bagpipe player! The crowd was CRAZY but we had great seats, could see them really well and still got to jump up and down and go crazy during "Kiss me I'm shitfaced!" hehe
Although the show was fantastic, I was very hungry by the end because even though we ate late at 1, they didn't go on until 4 so we weren't on the road until 6 or so.
The night went downhill from there.
I snacked on an apple in the car to hold me over, and we started heading towards home- planning on stopping for dinner along the way. Well, my dad disregarded the other map I had given him, because he "thought" he knew where we were going, and we ended up getting lost two or three times until FINALLY finding the cool vegan dinner joint I found us... TJ Scallywaggle's house of Vegan Pizza and Subs!
We parked the car where it was supposedly "ok", and went inside to enjoy a yummy vegan feast.
At 7pm, I was STARVING... we ordered two small 10" pizzas and shared- a vegan "sausage" and pineapple, as well as the spinocoli (broccolli, spinach and garlic)- both with vegan cheese and sauce. Mmmm great, crispy thin crust, tiny little pieces but the perfect portion to have 2 of each...

(Times two)

and I loved it so much I just had to go back for another 1/2 slice of each! So I had 5 pieces of vegan pizza! Woah! Good thing the pieces were small =)

We finished up our dinner, and headed back towards the car, bellies filled with vegan goodness... when we realized the car was GONE. Yep, gone. My dad "thought" again that the parking spot would be ok. Turns out it wasn't, and even being gone less than an hour got our car towed. I say "our" car only because my dad was driving it. It was MY car HE got towed...I pay for it! So of course I was pissed. Oh yea, and we were in a random city on the outskirts of Boston. Shit.
So we found the car, and you'd think the story ends there, right? Pay the fee, drive the car home. Well, stupid planning again(#...what are we up to now, 3?) we needed to pay CASH and my dad had nothing but credit. Not even a bank card, and me, being nervous about having my whole wallet on me had nothing but my ID and a bit of cash because I knew I was being treated to meals for the day... so we had no way of getting our car back. We tried for two hours to get cash, using the credit card, trying to cash checks, but of course it was late and no banks were open and stop and shop is no help... So we spent about 2.5 hours in a local grocery store, me FREAKING OUT, my dad panicking and not knowing what to do... ended up not being able to get the money, and had to call my mom to come pick us up off the highway- we took a cab there (another disastrous ride, the cabbie took the wrong exit- TWICE!) until we FINALLY got home. It was wayyy later than I had planned on getting home, I was exhausted, my car was still at Ray's lot in Allston (along with my recipe book! Grr!) and I had to work at 8 a.m. this morning.
So I went to bed.
And that is my epic tale of the ides of March 2008.
At least I had some damn good food.
