Yea, that was me today.
I'm not going to go into details, but Erica can attest that I pretty much had a mini-breakdown at work. Things are better now, but needless today my eating habits were not up to par with the Naturally Thin guidelines. Which is interesting, specifically because of rule #6 today.
So let me get into the rules.
Rules 6 and 7
Rule 6- Cancel your membership to the Clean Plate Club.
This isn't a steadfast rule; there are times where the portion size is just right, and you finish your food; I'm sure this happens most often at home. But if you don't want the rest of your food, why not eat it?
This isn't about wasting; Bethenny stresses. She offers some advice to manage portion sizes, by leaving some food on your plate, and not wasting while doing this:
- Share your food
- Don't throw the food away, save it and use it in another dish
- If you can't, order something smaller
- DON'T EAT IF IT'S NOT GOOD ANYMORE! (Or you're full!)
Rule # 7- Check yourself before you wreck yourself.
This rule is an important one to me, because it's about one of my biggest eating struggles; bingeing. This is the ONLY rule Bethenny says always goes. DO NOT BINGE.
There's no reason for it. If you can have everything (just not all at once) why DO you need it all at once? Bingeing is unhealthy and leaves you unhappy and bloated. So don't do it!
Easier said than done, right?
She understands the idea of emotional eating, and she knows that eating can be emotional without going overboard.
For me, it's hard to not go overboard sometimes. Like today. I was angry, and wanted something sweet. I had already had a sweet snack in the morning, but ALL I wanted was some licorice; which also helped my stomach which was hurting. So I had a couple handfuls, probably more than one serving. Yes, I overate. But I did not binge and ate emotionally, but consciously. I'll eat less tomorrow.
Bethenny understands bingeing is a hard habit to stop; but a goal that must be accomplished. Bingeing is more than just overeating. It is eating WAY too much, and feeling out of control. She suggests stopping yourself BEFORE you binge; she believes one reason for bingeing is deprivation. If you haven't eaten enough, your body WANTS to eat more, even if it's more of the unhealthy stuff. By eating balanced, and eating enough, you won't want to binge more. It's not an easy habit to break. But you need to make peace with food.
I'm working towards it, slowly.
So my food for today.
The morning started out well-
A waffle sammie with two Kashi Strawberry Flax waffles, a sliced banana, almond butter and raspberry preserves.
For lunch, I packed some of Mom's bean soup and some carrots.
Snacks were a Soyjoy bar at work (no pic sorry!), which had an interesting texture; kind of dry; but the flavor was AMAZING (mango coconut) so I'd eat it again.
I also had an apple, and the aforementioned licorice.
Dinner was prepared by my amazing boyfriend; it was Taco night again! I had three corn tacos (the two pictured plus one more), stuffed with refried beans, seasoned lean beef, topped with some salsa and microplaned-parm cheese. He also made some spicy rice, which was good- but I
only had a couple of bites because it was too spicy!
MY #1 problem today? Too many sweets! 3 sweet snacks was too much. Tomorrow will be a cut-back day for sure.
I'm exhausted, sorry for the not-too-interesting post, but I really need to get some rest tonight. I went to the gym today; for about 50 minutes doing the elliptical and arms. Tomorrow I plan on going for a run, then meeting up with Nick's parents in the afternoon.
