Despite being windy, cold and a bit rainy, my mom and I managed to have quite an enjoyable day in Boston!
We woke up bright and early (and I mean EARLY... check out the time on the clock in the car on the way to the station) and I had a 1/2 a grapefruit to start my day (I needed something to hold me over and fruit is always my first choice!) and we headed to Starbucks for a caffeine fix.
"Breakfast Cupcake" Alert: Unhealthy nutrition warning, do NOT copy me with one of these as your staple morning breakfasts, but as a once in a while treat it was soooo good... a Cranberry Orange Muffin from Starbucks! I also had a grande nonfat latte.
The train ride was a quick run, I got my reading done for school, and we were there before I knew it! We explored the streets for a bit, walked around, and I ate a pear for a snack while window shopping around 9:30.
We stopped in at Anthropologie, one of my favorite stores, for a good while- I spent wayyy too much money, but picked up a few cute kitchen pieces (including one of the "dessert" glasses a couple other bloggers have, I used to have one and it broke- they're just so cute! You'll be seeing my new one soon!) and some nice spring clothes.
We were hungry around noon, so we headed to Newbury where we ate lunch at The Other Side Cafe which has some really cool vegetarian and vegan options! My mom and I shared the "Raw Foodist's Chips and Dip" to start- it was a delicious plate full of carrot and beet "chips" with an AMAZING dip... I had probably 1/4 cup of dip and 5 or so of each of the chips.
For my lunch I ordered the half deal... I had the Veggie Wrap (which had lots of raw veggies, artichoke hearts, a cucumber sauce and dill havarti cheese) along with a cup of the hearty vegan stew. The sandwich was very tasty, but ohmigosh the stew... was the BEST stew I have ever had. Filled with big chunks of beet, fresh spinach, tomatoes, chickpeas... and made with TAHINI sauce (I loveee tahini) it was absolutely delicous. It seems like a lot of food, but it was a lot of veggies... yes, I finished the entire wrap AND soup =)
We spent the rest of the day shopping and exploring! Stopped at a couple of my favorite places, spent a bit too much money, but all in all had a great time. I did have a sample of chocolate covered cake batter at Sweet Heaven... no pic, I ate it much too fast! Yum!
For dinner we decided on something a little wordly, so we ate at Kashmir for a delightful Indian feast!
Not able to decide on just one delicious entree, my mom and I decided to get an order of Tandoori Roti bread (a wheat bread baked, not fried, in the tandoor oven- I forgot to ask for ours with no oil though) along with a lentil dish and a mixed vegetable dish. They were sooo flavorful and delicious! It was served with some jasmine rice, which I had a small scoop of and topped with some lentils to start, and had some mixed vegetables and roti on the side for my first helping. I went back TWICE more... 3 small servings in total, for mixed vegetables, lentils and roti. I felt a bit stuffed by the end, but it was delish... definately worth it!

Yes, I splurged a bit. But I got in lots of veggies, and some fruit so that was a plus! It was my "vacation" day after all... ;)
And we had fun which is what matters above all!
I think I might have a light late night snack now, and then I'll be back to being healthy tomorrow!
EDITED TO ADD:
I figured it wasn't interesting enough for it's own post, but I did snack on an apple!

I love indian, and I'm really excited to get making some of my own...this was just the inspiration I needed. Naan is one of my favorites, you're bread looks great :) And lentils....mmmm, absolutely LOVE them! Seriously, I'm very jealous of your dinner (can't you tell , ahah)
glad it was a good day...sounds like a fun way to spend your vacation with your mom-love the girl outings :)
Your food sounds so tasty! I wouldn't worry about feeling bad about "splurging" or forgetting to ask for no oil...you need some (good) fats in your diet! Best of luck on trying to gain weight!
