Daytime Fuel

I'm realizing more and more that I like the European way of eating the largest meal mid-day, and eating something smaller for dinner. This morning I had a regular sized breakfast, and a medium sized snack to fuel my workout, plus a bigger lunch to hold me over throughout the afternoon. Eating most of my calories during the day gives me enough energy for my exercise, daily activities, and especially for 5 hours of work today! I just need to get used to eating less at night. I'm going to try another small-ish dinner tonight, and a smaller snack in the evening and see how I feel tomorrow.

For my mid-morning snack I had about 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese and a handful of grapes

This fueled my 30 minute cardio session- I started by speed walking 10 minutes on a 10% incline, followed by 10 minutes of 6.0-8.0 level sprints, and 10 more minutes of inclined speed walking. After my cardio, I did 15 minutes of arm exercises- I definately need to get bigger weights. I get tired after two sets, but I'm doing 15 reps of each exercises, 2 sets each, and not getting too many results. Maybe I'll try to up my weight and do 10-12 reps/2 sets each exercise and see how that goes!

After my workout, I made myself a big lunch to fuel my day- a hummus sandwich, with 1/4 cup hummus, some greens and cucumber slices on 2 sliced sprouted grain bread; a cup of 0% greek yogurt (Vanilla flavored- I really enjoyed this flavor!), and a juicy nectarine.

I'm all full, and about to go get ready for work. The sun is just coming out... figures!

Have a great Monday all!

definitely agree with the daytime fuel/European way of eating, having a bigger meal in the middle of the day means i can digest and not be stuffed getting into bed at night, bleh!

i Kristin, I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I started running a couple months ago, maybe the end of May. At first I was pretty slow and found myself walking alot, but now I can run for about 2-2.5 miles, walk for a minute or two, then run another mile to 2 miles. I can breah perfectly fine the whole way, but my legs get so sore. I know you started increasing your diet a while back, and wondered if you noticed any kind of difference in how your legs felt while running?

Im sure it would help me, but Im at a relativly healthy weight, and eat 3 meals a day with snacks in between.

Sorry so lengthy..just wanted to get your opinion. Thanks!

Annie,

I feel the best when I eat frequent meals during the day, always having a snack about 1/2-1 hr before my runs, and having lunch after. Then, I never feel run down or like I need to stop. My legs generally feel fine, unless I haven't eaten in a while! Maybe pump up your pre run snack with some complex carbs and protein to fuel you better!
