One of my biggest healthy eating obstacles has been emotional eating.
I tend to eat when I’m upset, or angry- and I KNOW it’s a bad habit; but all of us know bad habits are hard to break.
Take yesterday for example. I ate perfectly healthy all day, I felt good, I went to the gym for an hour and did cardio and legs.
Then I headed to Nick’s house to start to make dinner.
When I got there, I found out I was locked out.
Confused, because usually at least one door is left open for me… I tried calling all of the 4 people that live there, with no luck as to someone nearby or a spare key at hand.
I was pretty upset, not to mention STARVING… so I headed to Bagelz for some free WiFi… to find out they were closing in 20 minutes.
Frustrated, I headed up the street to Panera, where all I could think about was food. And when I got inside, the only thing I wanted was… a muffin.
I tried to go the ‘healthier route’ by choosing the low fat bluberry…

But the first ingredient was still SUGAR.
I controlled myself and only had half, which held me over until Nick called me.
He was nice enough to make dinner because practice got cancelled, and I must say he did a great job seasoning the beef for the tacos!
I had two, with some lean beef, refried beans, salsa and shredded cheese…

And they were so good I had a third.

I also snacked on a few sweets in the evening…

(yes, these are japanese chocolate-filled koala cookies. I had this x3)
And that was enough for the night.

So lesson learned? I really need to eat more intuitively and not eat emotionally. Clearly I have been over this before, it has been a problem and continues to be one (although not as bad.) I ate some good stuff tonight, and some bad stuff… but knowing that I ate a bit too much, because I CHOSE TO doesn’t feel great- because I know how to eat healthy.
But as I always say, tomorrow’s a new day and moderation will be key for the following days.

And today is tomorrow!
Although we do have some fun Friday night plans (you’ll notice a theme going on…)
I kept my meals healthy and ayurvedic dosha-happy, which honestly I haven’t been thinking too much about lately.

This morning I woke up and made (finally!) another creamy bowl of oatbran.

Just the way I like it- 1/2 cup oatbran, 1 cup nonfat soy milk, 1 tsp ghee, a sliced banana and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
This held me through my workout- 35 minutes on the elliptical and 35 minutes of strength. I really felt like I was dragging today... must be the dreary weather!
I stuck through it though, and after showering and gearing up with my North Face rainjacket and J Crew wellies, I was on the way to my exam.

I snacked on a light string cheese while I read some notes over before class.
The exam went pretty well,

After the exam I treated myself to a grape Kombucha, and dug into the comfort food lunch I packed.

Can you say yum? I think this was the best Amy's meal I have EVER had! I LOVE that these meals are tasty, have great nutritional profiles, no preservatives, no MSG and no trans fats! They're a great alternative when you need a meal on the go, or you want something a little more than a mish-mosh when the fridge is getting low, like me.

Everything about this meal SCREAMED comfort, I savored every bite and I was very sad when it was finished.

It held me over through some more studying though, and I'm about to have a snack before running a couple of errands- work, bank and groceries before getting some take out and having a night in with the boy.

My afternoon snack-

I've got some fun weekend plans- a surprise party on Saturday I'm helping out with (cupcake decorating!) and Sunday I have OFF, which hardly ever happens but I am very glad, I need some R&R time!

I'm hoping to catch up on some blog-stuff on Sunday- update you guys on some of the pantry items I've been using, and adding a couple recipes I've made recently to the recipes page. I'll let you know when they're done!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE those koala cookies! I've had them before but I can't remember where! Where did you get them?

Don't worry about the emotional eating---it's something we all struggle with from time to time, and I think you did a great job getting back on track the next day!
